SmartShot in Canada
An underground silver/gold/copper and zinc mine situated in Manitoba, Canada, has been using DetNet’s electronic detonators supplied by Dyno Nobel in their secondary production stopes since May 2006.

Record SmartShot Blast at Nkomati Nickel
On the 16th May 2008, a record blast of 1,170 SmartShot detonators was successfully fired at Nkomati Nickel. 5.7Mt of material was blasted making it the largest electronic blast to date, 800 tonnes of explosives were used.

Largest
SmartShot blast fired in Africa to date
On the 12th December
2007 the largest SmartShot blast, in Africa, was successfully
inititiated at a Gomes quarry situated in Gauteng,
South Africa. Gomes quarry is owned by Quarry Cats
which is a subsidiary of Group Five. The blast was
managed by Dorsland’s Johan De Villiers with
AEL’s Ritzema Nel and Allen Steyn providing technical
support and DetNet’s Carlos Goncalves and Nick
Bird overseeing the SmartShot deployment. A total of
722 SmartShot detonators fired 65 tonnes of explosives.
The blast was initiated remotely via radio frequency
with SmartShot control equipment.
