Originally DetNet emerged out of the amalgamation of two leading electronic detonator companies: The first was Altech, the world leader in pre-programmed detonators and blasting networks, and the second was a subsidiary of African Explosives Limited (AEL), which developed the Smartdet fully programmable electronic initiation system.

In September 2004, DetNet became a joint venture between Dyno Nobel ASA and AECI. This gave DetNet access to it’s 22 years of electronic initiation system experience in Africa plus the electronic initiator technologies developed by Dyno Nobel.

DetNet now has a suite of electronic systems that will benefit customers in most mining applications.

DetNet’s winning formula is based on a series of core capabilities.

  • DetNet has amassed over 22 years of research spanning the entire electronic detonator value chain.

  • DetNet utilizes world class manufacturing facilities, which have produced over 20 Million electronic detonators to date, and has an installed capacity to meet the growing demand for electronic initiation systems.

  • The combined electronic detonator technologies of DetNet and Dyno Nobel, includes both wire based and shock tube based systems.

  • DetNet has a proven capability of demonstrating the value of electronic initiation systems to customers, for example over 25% of AEL's , DetNet's African channel partner, surface and large ore body market now has sustainably converted to electronics.
